Jun 30, 2007 - DV8 S.C. Promoted

Team with trophy

DV8 S.C. went undefeated with an 11-0-1 record during the Peninsula Soccer League 2006-07 season. The 1st division squad went into its final game of the season with an unblemished record of 11-0, needing at least a tie to win the division, against a Sunnyvale team that only had one loss. Sunnyvale's only loss was given to them by DV8 about 5 months earlier. The game was fought hard from the first whistle with Sunnyvale going ahead 1-0 about 30 minutes into the game. Both teams had their opportunities but at half-time Sunnyvale United were feeling confident retaining their one goal lead. "Communication" was the pep-talk topic during the half-time break. The line-up was also changed from 4-4-2 to 3-5-2 in order to dominate the mid-field battle. Within the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half, Kaveh found himself with a ball landing in front of him about 14 yards from the goal after the a corner clearance. He made no mistake when he slammed the ball into the top netting with an elated dance to follow his celebration. The score was now level at 1-1. The team began to grow in confidence and 15 minutes later one of the best goals of the season was struck by Forrest Cadam as he beat his man down the right side flank and powered a ball from around 20 yards out, which bended towards the top left hand corner of the goal, giving the opposing keeper no chance at a save. This left about 20 minutes left for Sunnyvale to try and score two more goals. With a one goal lead we went to a 4-5-1 as Sunnyvale needed two more goals in order to dethrone DV8 from the top spot of the table. Both teams had their chances but Sunnyvale finally converted with about 5 minutes left to play on a miscommunication between the sweeper and the goal keeper. The last 5 minutes was packed with pressure from Sunnyvale as DV8 prepared to defend their goal line and hang on for the draw. It proved to be enough as the final whistle blew and the score line remained at 2-2. DV8 S.C. had gone undefeated and were crowned Division 1 champs!

The other DV8 team finished in one of the top spots of the Premier Division, which was also enough for a promotion into the Major division. Currently both teams play in the top two divisions of the Peninsula Soccer League — the Major Division and Premier division respectively.
