Apr 23, 2011 - DV8 enters US Open Cup

The 98th edition of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup will begin its campaign to find a national champion with regional qualifying competitions beginning in May. DV8 will be one of eight teams that will be competing in the Sacramento regional on May 19-22, with a chance to advance and become one of the remaining amateur teams in the competition.

The more than 155 teams that entered the competition will be narrowed to 40 teams for the tournament proper by the May 30 qualifying deadline. This year, 19 professional teams, including eight from Major League Soccer, and 21 amateur teams will make up the field. DV8 is hoping to be one of the amateur teams that will advance.

"This is a young and vibrant team with lots of talent", coach Eduar Mafla explained. "These guys will gain a lot of experience by competing against the best teams in the area. We hope to grow as a club, gain exposure for our players, and continue to be one of the top teams in the Bay Area".

DV8 is finalizing its roster for the tournament and is confident it will assemble its best team ever. Quality players from DV8 Elite and DV8 Defenders will form the backbone of this team, which will participate in its first-ever national tournament.
